Q&A with Sjemmon about his new special mix 'Voz de las Montañas'

Today we bring you another VM Radio Special; in Voz de las Montañas (voice of the mountains), named after the eponymous track by Nicola Cruz, Sjemmon brings you nearly two hours of awakening and compelling sounds from different parts of the world. Simply close your eyes as you’re getting into the meditative state once you start to listen. Don’t try to identify the sounds you are hearing. Don’t put names on them. Simply allow them to play with your eardrums. And soon you will find, that the so-called outside world and the so-called inside world come together.

We had a chat with Sjemmon and asked him about the story behind this theme:

Why did you choose this theme?

I chose this theme because there was an extensive list of cool downtempo tracks that I couldn’t fit in the regular VM Radio shows. I usually play housy and funky tracks while the downtempo tracks are about creating atmosphere. One track may make you feel like standing in a rainforest whereas another one puts you into the middle of the desert.

What does this type of music bring to you?

With this type of music in the background, I slowly dream away to distant places. It also gives routine tasks a bit of flavor.

When did you first get into this music?

I remember the moment I heard a set of Nicola Cruz for the first time. I was recovering on a terrace from a tough mountain bike ride in the mountains of Patagonia, Argentina. First I didn’t even notice that I was listening to an actual mix. However, after 20 minutes I couldn’t leave the terrace anymore as Nicola Cruz got me into his mesmerizing and dreamy vibe.

Any favorite tracks within this genre?

My personal favorite track from Nicola Cruz is El Búho – Aguas Claras (Nicola Cruz Remix). The track combines the characteristic flute of Nicola with a mysterious melody that takes me away instantly.
